Miss Nebraska Teresa Scanlan, 17, donned the crown as Miss America 2011 on Saturday night in Las Vegas, following in the footsteps of last year's queen, Caressa Cameron out of Virginia.
The winner of a $50,000 scholarship, she plans to go to law school and hopes to go into politics.
"At this point, attorneys and politicians are looked down on and have terrible reputations for being greedy and power hungry," the teen said, "and I really think it's important for people who have their heart and mind in the right place get into those powerful positions."
And how did she charm the judges, aside from the gown and swimsuit? She played the piano, and told judges she thinks security trumps the public's right to knowledge when it comes to leaked government information.
Scanlan is the first Miss America from Nebraska in the competition's 90 years. Her beauty queen diet? "I never passed up a cookie on my journey here," she said.

In the cream and skin care department just about every new cream on the market is going to have anti-ageing and anti-oxidant properties. Here’s a look at some of the latest ingredient innovations – read them to find out more about what you should be using on your skin:

• Argiriline: A non-toxic skin relaxant with a similar function to Botox, but without a need for an injection. It works by reducing excessive catecholamine’s that is responsible for the skin tension and plays a role in the neurotransmission of nerves that supply the skin by relaxing them.
• Renovage: Helps to improve ageing skin, diminish redness and help with wrinkles. Inside a skin cell are parts of your DNA called telomeres. These telomere structures shorten as you age and Renovage is an active ingredient that helps the telomere structures keep their length. Full telomere length helps promote skin repair and detoxification.
• Kombuchka: A molecule that offers a non-invasive, natural way to smooth out skin and produce more radiance and colour. It also has strong anti-glycation activity that helps protect the integrity of collagen and elastin, which is vital for skin to sustain its youth.
• Matrixyl: Able to reduce the appearance of wrinkle depth and volume, decrease the area occupied by deep wrinkles and increase skin tone and acts as an alternative to Retinol and Vitamin C.

When you compete in a beauty pageant you have to be on top of your game. To help you prepare for the Miss SA pageant, we have compiled some useful tips to help you get ready.

It’s very important to start preparing your hair for summer time, so using a leave-in treatment from Kerastase (Nutrifdefense) to moisturise and nourish the hair will prevent dryness during summer. Curls are very fashionable at the moment. Try *diffusing your hair once a week.  This improves the condition of your hair as you don't have the intense heat of the straightening iron or hair drier on full blast.
Now is a good time to start using a sun range for the summer period. The heat of an average hairdryer is equivalent to 30 minutes in the sun.  Both are very harsh on your hair, and using Colour Extend Sun from Redken will ensure your colour does not fade and your hair is protected (much like sun tan lotion would protect your skin). Ensure the brush that you use to blowwave your hair is not older than one and a half years.  Bristles will eventually start to break and can damage your hair.

The 2011 Miss SA Pageant

Although times have changed since the inception of the Miss South Africa pageant, the same qualities are still required for the incumbent Miss South Africa to be able to shine as a role model and ambassador.

The perception of this role and reality can sometimes be vastly different. The idea that a "Beauty Queen" is just for show and only judged on her exterior beauty is certainly not relevant in the search for our ambassador. We always refer to the "full package" which includes among other attributes, the inner strength and maturity to take on the role and be able to interact with people on all levels and social standing.

From the moment of completing the entry form, the "job interview" commences and this will eventually culminate in the winner taking on a position which will see them "working" for their sponsors, Sun International, designers, charities, media and most importantly, for the South African public

Miss ETHEKWINI 2011-Aurielle Naicker

Aurielle is certainly no alien to Durban

 IF ALIENS landed in the City of Durban, recently-crowned Miss eThekwini Aurielle Naicker would take them to a picnic at the Botanic Gardens.

“It is one of my three favourite places in Durban. It is absolutely beautiful and one can’t help but lose yourself in the serenity of the place,” said the 17-year-old grade eleven pupil from Pinetown.

Her other two favourite destinations are the Durban City Hall and the imposing Moses Mabhida Stadium, because of the tourist attraction.

The outspoken Pinetown Girls’ High pupil said she was not surprised when she walked away with the crown, beating 30 other girls between the ages of 17 and 24.

“I expected to win, because I was positive and had a confident approach to the pageant,” said Aurielle, who walked off with a R30 000 cash prize.

In addition she will have her learner’s and driver’s licences paid for. She also received as her prize vouchers for shoes, makeup and clothing. Aurielle now wants to extend her outreach programme further.

“I’m currently a member of the Oxygen Youth Ministries in Phoenix. We counsel children using drama, arts, dancing and singing to help them grow. I hope this title would open more doors in different areas in and around Durban.”

While her work is Christian faith based, Aurielle said she was open to youth from all different faiths.

“I respect all religions. I want to engage in moral building with the youth. I believe, that we are the future of this country and we need strong guidance.”

Her social responsibilities as Miss eThekwini include feeding schemes and helping the underprivileged.

While school and part time modelling keep her busy, Aurielle describes herself as “an average teenager”.

“I love getting dressed up, and doing the normal stuff like reading, shopping and taking walks on the beachfront promenade.”

With her matric year beckoning in 2012, Aurielle plans on pursuing a career in aviation.

This year’s beauty pageant is expected to be uShaka’s best yet. With the help of NESTLE, KwaZulu-Natal’s favourite beachfront venue is offering prizes to the value of R50 000 which include over R25 000 Cash , trips on MS Sinfonia, Photo portfolio, S&A Marketing profile for the year, Face of uShaka Marine World on all advertising for the year, product and numerous other prizes.

Junior Miss uShaka, Sholene Ramdass, was a finalist in Miss Teen SA 2010 and last year’s Miss Junior uShaka winner, Senè Kirton from Richards Bay, is the current title holder of numerous local pageants in her area such as, Miss Enchanted 2011; Miss Teen Catwalk 2011; Miss Teen Motorshow 2011 and Miss Teen Alkantstrand 2011.

Miss Durban 2011

This past weekend Itheku was nominating Miss Durban 2011 where by the throne was taken by Miss Naicker along with her second and third princessed.Estil Mpunzana,MD, Estilite Model Management attended this show with Mandisa Njokweni. According to Estil there were few sponsors for this show which was not a good thing because some girls had to wear their own attire.The Dj seemed like he did not rehears and the artists which were featured besides Sfiso were not up to scratch .The artists were too young ,upcoming and not experienced .There was too much interference in the girls catwalk by the artists .This show was hosted by Jafta Mamabolo(known as Mathew in Generation).The whole show was organised by U3-Wiseman Mathonsi.The food was good though.

ESTILITE MODEL MANAGEMENT in collaboration with Zoliswa Mkhonde for a new Miss Kwa-Zulu Natal project

Estil Mpunzana,MD,Estilite Model Management was talking behind closed doors with Zoliswa Mkhonde,Durban about a collaboration deal to stage Miss KwaZulu Natal.The dates are yet to be announced as to when this event will take place.When we asked Estil about this he just told us to watch the space.Our team will try and get an inteview with Zoliswa Mkhonde.

Estilite Model Management (EMM) fires Model Mandy

Model Mandy Radebe has been fired from Estilite Model Management.According to the trusted sources she has been fired because of bringing the agency into disrepute.According to the EMEdotARTIST events organiser,Mandisa "Mandy-Jr" Njokweni who is also a liaison officer for Estilite Model Management,this junior model passed false accusations  about the Agency in the local Durban radio.Whe Mandisa was asked to open up on whart the accusations were, she refused specify and said that the matter is in the hands of the Agency lawyers .Whe we interviewed the MD of the agency,Estil Mpunzana he said he was not surprised about this because this model had already  complained to him  that she was ignored and deprived from being on fashion shows including the Durban July Handicap`s 'Shoelaced Brand".He also added that this model was on a learning phase which is the reason she was not included in Durban July Handicap "Shoelaced" project where  experienced models like Model Nosie` ,Model Angie` to name a few were needed and even these models were not representing the agency in that event because  of problems the Agency had with "Shoelaced " people .....

The three bodies under Estil`s Music & Entertainment cc,emedotartist,estilite model management and EME Djs have proposed staging a get together party in a venue which has not yet been revealed.According to MD,Estil "Eme" Mpunzana he confirmed these rumours but did not specify the details about this gig as he said he is trying to avoid the presence of the media.He estimated the end of november 2011 and told us that the gig is for farmiliarising everyone about licencee,Estil`s Music & Entertainment cc..Estil told us that  top names in Music,Acting and DJ scene have been invited in this gig to be staged in Durban,South Africa.

Estilite Model Management is proposing using its models in promoting Avon brand.According to estil Mpunzana he said that this is at the moment a proposal and he refused to coment if there is any deals the agency is entering into with Avon.he promised our jounalists full report in October 2011.

It has come to our attention that Eme`,Estil Mpunzana,the man behind EMEdotARTIST,EME DJs and Estilite Model Management is rapping up his relationship status and we all wonder who is this lucky woman to win the throne.This was revealed by our trusted sources.The agency is tweeting these findings and will be intervewing Estil himself to here him confessing about it.Even on tweeter these news were found but were taken as mere rumours.
